Legal Issues Arising from the 2012 Bargaining Round

Seminar Summary

Faced with a difficult economic situation, the Government of Ontario took steps in early 2012 to impose fiscal restraints on the province’s public education sector. This seminar will review the implementation of the Putting Students First Act and consider its effect on public school boards. Among other new measures, we will discuss changes introduced to:

• Teacher sick leave and disability policies
• The hiring process: Placing supply teachers in permanent positions
• The sector’s labour relations dispute resolution mechanism and how it is working
